Ascribe Greatness

Ascribe greatness.

But how do I start?  Why not where You started?  The canvas of space, black and empty, was immediately filled by Your very words.  Your song rang out and echoed in its deepest corners, and light burst forth from trillions upon trillions of stars - stars that You individually named.  The universe took shape, and it was a work of art that would have no competition.  You made something great.

Ascribe greatness.

Of all Your works, Your Word, steadfast and true, rises to the top.  The most wondrous stories ever told were penned by Your very breath.  You captured the beauty of Your creation in its pages with mankind as its pinnacle.  You painfully recorded his utter rejection of You for mere fruit.  Between its bindings, you saved us from the flood, from the slavery, from the giants, from the fire, from the exile, from ourselves.  You wrote something great.

Ascribe greatness.

When Your works and Your word could not turn our cold hearts of stone to You, Your Son was sent to us.  We beheld His glory, the glory that He shared with You before time began.  For the first time ever, You could be touched by human hands.  Even more amazing, You touched us with holy hands.  You came to our houses and loved us in our wickedness.  You healed our sicknesses, calmed our storms, fed our hunger, and gave us sight.  Even death itself stood no chance to ever have victory in Your presence.  You gave us Someone great.

Ascribe greatness.

You were betrayed and abandoned.  You were scorned, you were beaten, you were humiliated.  You were crucified and pierced.  You were forsaken by Your Father as each and every one of our sins was attributed to You.  We joined as one and demanded it to be so.  You were murdered by our evil, bloodthirsty hands.  What did we receive for such a heinous crime?  Forgiveness.  Cleansing.  Purity.  Holiness.  Love.  You suffered something great.

Ascribe greatness.

Death wrapped its coils around Your broken body.   The grave swallowed You whole, reveling in its greatest conquest.  The demons celebrated in cackles that left all hope obscured in darkness.  But then it happened - you breathed.  Has ever such a breath been so powerful?  All death was shattered.  The grave crumbled into ruins.  Sin's power burst into flames and left no ash to be discovered.  You rose again.  You found us weeping.  You called our name.  We fell at Your feet with joy.  You gave us a gift, wrapped in pure gold, gleaming in holy light.  We received it from Your nail-pierced hand.  It was life, eternal and true.  You accomplished something great.

Ascribe greatness.

You have called us beloved who have never known love.  You have adopted us as children who were lost and alone.  You have accepted us who have crumbled under rejection.  You have declared us righteous who have always been filled with sin.  You have pronounced us holy who have only sought after wickedness.  You have made us light whose hearts are darker than the night.  You have called us Your bride though we have been nothing but whores.  You have transformed us into something great.

Ascribe greatness.

You are coming again.  How long will it be?  You are preparing a place.  Oh, when shall we see?  The greatest of cities will be ours to enjoy.  The streets of gold will glisten in Your perfect light.  The trees will produce the sweetest of fruits from Your living waters.  No army will invade, no death will be known.  No tears will be shed, no goodbyes spoken.  No heart will be broken, no sorrow will exist.  We will be dressed in royal robes of white, purified by Your holy blood.  We will fall before You in utter adoration.  Faith will be cast aside, never to be retrieved.  Hope will be dissolved and never remembered.  All that will remain is love - Your love for us, our love for You.  You will reign on high forevermore.  You are building something great.

"Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee - How great Thou art!  How great Thou art!  Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee - How great Thou art!  How great Thou art!" - Stuart Hine

"Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.  Ascribe to the Lord glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness" - Psalm 30:1-2

My awesome Heavenly Father - You, immeasurably above and beyond all things, are great!
